About

WELCOME TO DOREMIFA PIANO SCHOOL

DoReMiFa Piano School is a private piano school in Central London, providing individual piano and music theory lessons for all levels, ages and abilities, covering the entire curriculum of piano education. Founded in 1998 by Rina Groueva, the school teaches a wide age range of pupils – from 4 to 70 years old – giving a wealth of knowledge and inspiration to students for a lifetime.

Our aims for our students, at every level:

  • To nurture and develop each individual musical talent
  • To instil a love and appreciation of music
  • To make learning joyful
  • To inspire creativity and artistry
  • To create happy and competent musicians

DoReMiFa pupils come from many schools in Central London, including St Paul’s (boys & girls), Colet court,  Westminster, City of London (boys & girls), Wheterby Prep, Pembridge Hall, Hereward House, Thomas’s Kensington, William Tyndale, Canonbury, Glendower prep, Arnold House, Queen’s College London, Putney High School, Bute House, Cameron House, South Hampstead High School, Dame Alice Owen’s, Highgate and Mill Hill School. There are also many adult pupils. All the students share a passion and love for music and an enthusiasm for learning to play the piano. Students perform regularly in concerts and assemblies at their own schools, and at the DoReMiFa annual recitals.

DoReMiFa Piano School prepares for all levels of exams, from ABRSM Grades 1-8 to Diplomas, in both piano and theory of music. Preparation for Aural tests and Sight Readings is also available, and tuition for Music Scholarship exams. Equally, some students may learn simply to play for life-long enjoyment, without taking exams, if that is preferred. The classes within the school are personally taught by Rina, and she is proud of the outstanding achievements of her students.

100% examination success over 18 years!

DoReMiFa is a unique institution with a distinctive approach, providing a comprehensive education in piano and classical music, with a framework that enables all music students to excel.

RINA GROUEVA MMus LNAM TeachDip MISM

Rina Groueva is a highly qualified classical musician (concert pianist, music theorist, accompanist, performer and teacher) who has an exceptional pedigree in the field of classical music. She is one of the leading piano tutors in Central London and has been established for more than eighteen years. She is renowned and respected for her ability to inspire, enthuse and encourage her students by keeping them interested, motivated and excited about  learning classical music and playing the piano. Her knowledge and understanding of instrumental skills together with her personality, sense of humour and enthusiasm explain why she is in great demand as a piano teacher .

Rina Groueva was born into a musical family in Bulgaria. (Her grandfather was a co-founder and conductor of  the The State Opera Stara Zagora, founded in 1925). Rina had an early start in music education. At the age of five she attended the Children’s Music School, performed in public at the age of six, and when she was twelve she participated in The International Children’s Assembly “Banner of Peace” – a major cultural event held under the aegis of UNESCO in Sofia in 1979. For her secondary education she was accepted in the piano class at the High Specialist Music School ‘Hristina Morfova’  StaraZagora, where she studied with Prof. Romeo Smilkov, and later with Prof. M.Mollova and Prof. Ivan Eftimov (students of Emil Gilels and Maria Grindberg). She continued her music education at the National Academy of Music, Sofia, where along with music disciplines she studied musical pedagogy, philosophy and psychology. She graduated BMus and was awarded Master of Music (MMus) in Piano Performance and Theory of Composing and Conducting.

She has performed on numerous occasions in London and in every major city in Bulgaria. Rina is a member of ISM (Incorporated Society of Musicians) and is currently preparing to become an ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) examiner.

Our way of teaching

Through many years of performing and teaching experience Rina has developed a unique and fascinating teaching approach. Her success comes from concentrating on security of technique, whilst inspiring a sense of excitement in her pupils by working with their imagination right from the start.

By creating a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere in the lessons, and taking the stress out of learning, she draws the best out of each student while building a strong pupil-teacher relationship and treating every student’s needs individually.

She is genuinely interested in her students’ personalities and in developing each individual’s musical potential. She builds her students’ confidence and freedom of thought – essential for  musical communication and interpretation, improvisation and composition. Through her inspirational, responsive and sympathetic approach she strongly encourages playing with feeling and understanding.

The students are encouraged to attend concerts and recitals, art exhibitions and galleries as well as performances of opera, ballet, musicals and theatres in order to extend their musical and cultural horizons.

It gives me enormous joy and pleasure to see my students progressing from preliminary stages to an imaginative and mature interpretation of the masters. I feel fortunate to have had such a fine classical musical education, and privileged to have the opportunity to pass on my knowledge and passion for such music to the new generation of young musicians in the UK.
